Converter is an energy conversion device. To describe and evaluate its performance, it needs many parameters.
The characteristic parameters for converter include the data such as resonant frequency, frequency bandwidth, electromechanical coupling factor, electroacoustic efficiency, mechanical quality factor, impedance characteristic, frequency characteristic, directivity, launch and receive sensitivity and so on.
Converters for different means require different performance parameters. For example, the launch type ultrasonic converter requires powerful output power and high energy conversion efficiency; but for the receiving type ultrasonic converter it needs wider frequency band and high sensitivity and distinguishability etc.
With the above reasons, designing every parameter according to specific application is a must before the processing of detailed design.
